As promised a few weeks ago, here are some resources for fair trade items. Sarah had asked me a while back where you could find fair trade shoes. I have a short list of online retailers who sell fair trade footwear. I believe this list is fairly accurate, you may want to double check me, because I did the research a few months ago. I haven't purchase from any of these companies yet.
These first two are actually owned by the same company:
http://www.simpleshoes.com (bonus - they are eco-friendly)
http://www.teva.com/index.aspx
New Balance seems to be a good brand. As long as you don't buy ones that are made in China they are pretty much guaranteed to be fair trade.

I almost bought a pair of simples the other day at Ross.
And then I thought, 'what good are my hemp covered feet if I am only going to wear these 35 times and then tire of them and give them away? what good is this if the money goes to Ross and not Simple? What good is this when I have 29 other pairs of shoes in my closet throwing themselves at my feet morning after morning like I'm the pool at Bethesda. Why would I cripple another pair of shoes???'
and then. let's talk missions money. I could spend $15 on simple shoes. I could spend $15 on missions in western asia. I could spend the money helping men translate bibles into languages I've never heard of. Western asia-ish languages. for $15 bucks.
I think from now on, when I have those asia thoughts, I will place the money I would have spent on simple shoes on the other side of my wallet flap. the spiritual side of my wallet. I may even add the 7%.
Spiritual side of the wallet. I always wondered what that other flap was for.
I may have to steal that.
Rob Bell would say the whole wallet is spiritual. I have to agree:)
I brought up the idea of fair trade at a Bible study I was invited to this morning. I'm still limping. Capitalism Shmapitalism.
